Marcia was born
and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She has lived in most of the
Canadian provinces and spent seventeen years in Canada's Arctic before
moving back to her roots - Saskatchewan.
Always interested
in art and related subjects, Marcia has taken classes in pottery, batik,
painting on silk and calligraphy before focusing on watercolor. She
has attended two summer sessions at Metchosin Summer School of the Arts
at Pearson College on Vancouver Island as well as workshops in Yellowknife
and Regina.
She began classes
in watercolor in Victoria, BC in 1991 at the recommendation of her neighbour,
artist and friend, Joyce Spillsbury (Trace).
Her first class
was with Victoria artist Glen Matthews and later that year when she
returned to Regina she registered with the university fine arts program
under Regina artist Donna Kreikle. Since then she has enjoyed many classes
with local Regina artists as well as traveling to the north of England
to paint with Ontario artist Jack Reid.
More recently, Marcia
travelled to Europe and painted in Provence France with Ward Schell
and Jennifer McCorrie.
